October 2021

Dear Friends,
This month, I have two videos to share with you from two missionaries, both of whom serve in the Southeast Asia Region.

LISA LEHMAN
The first is from Lisa Lehman, longtime friend of this church serving in Thailand.  She will be joining us Wednesday, October 20, in our "Enjoying God" programming in the choir room at 6:30PM.  She sent a video that she wishes us to watch before she joins us for the service.

A love offering will be taken during the Wednesday night service to support Lisa in her work.

EMMA WRIGHT
The second video is from Emma Wright, a young woman whom many of us know because she graduated from Olivet, her father is a minister in the Church of the Nazarene here in Illinois, and she visited us to share about her work two years ago. She was slated to visit us this spring, but we were still following state guidelines that prohibited our meeting in our Wednesday night services.  Instead, I asked her to send a video that would show her work with the Remember Nhu organization in Cambodia, an organization that rescues children who are at risk of being sold into slavery.  You can access her video in the link below:

Looking ahead:

Erick Johnson, missionary
Our own Erick Johnson, recent grad of ONU, has signed on with Sonset Solutions, located in Elkhart, IN. This organization provides technical and IT support for multiple mission organizations working throughout the world.

Erick feels called to support ministry in Kenya specifically and is in Kenya now. In one of his texts to his mom Jen, he mentioned a well they replaced in a school, a well they worked on in a rural area where the well provides the only clean water for an eight-mile radius, audio Bibles that the people were using, compliments of Sonset Solutions, and the Jesus Film that makes such an impact on those who have never before heard the gospel.

In order to partner with Sonset and to return to Kenya to do ministry throughout the next year, Erick must raise his own support by the end of November. This support covers salary, health benefits, living expenses, but comes at a pretty price: $3600 a month. The mission council has provided a lump sum of $1200 to aid him in raising his support, but the council wanted to give all of you the chance to help support Erick if you are so led.

Thanksgiving offering
November 25 is Thanksgiving Day. That means we will be taking our annual Thanksgiving offering on Nov 21 in both services (and online and in the office, of course). Pray now about what you can give to help the cause of missions around the world. The offering supports the World Evangelism Fund of the Church of the Nazarene, which disperses funds

  • to global missionaries for salaries, travel expenses, educational allowances, pension plans, and health care

  • to global churches, schools, hospitals clinics, and developmental centers for operational needs

  • to global districts for church planting and development, as well as building and property maintenance

  • to global NMI organization for workshops and training for new missionaries, for potential missionaries, and for global, regional and district leadership

Thank you for being part of our mission efforts.
